Rules

  1. Tennis shoes only — no black soles.
  2. Absolutely no skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles, dogs, or other games are allowed besides tennis, pickleball, or basketball. Nets are not to be moved or used for purposes other than tennis or pickleball.
  3. No stone throwing or marking of the courts in any way. Do not climb on the fence or hang on the basketball rim.
  4. Be quiet and respectful of others while playing.
  5. Guests are welcome as long as one HME resident is on the court too. Daily fee of $2 for each guest can be paid via Venmo to Thomas-Beggs (or cash/check to his mailbox at the address below). These fees go back into the HME treasury to help defray costs; the guest program is self‑enforced.
  6. The entrance gate should be locked when the courts are empty, and the lock combination should be kept confidential among HME residents. If kids have the gate opened by an adult/parent, adults are responsible for locking up after court use.
  7. If there are people waiting, limit play to no more than one hour for singles or 1½ hours for doubles (from the time you started). Let others know when you expect to finish if they are waiting.
  8. Pickleball nets should be rolled to the side of the courts when not in use. This protects the courts from divots from the wheels, especially on hot days. It is best to leave nets on the level edge of the courts rather than all the way against the fence.
  9. Adults have priority over children after 5 PM daily and on weekends. This does not mean kids cannot use the courts after 5 PM, but that they allow adults priority during those hours if there is a conflict. Working adults often cannot get to the courts until the evening, while kids can use them during the day. It is OK for kids to play basketball while adults use the pickleball or tennis courts. Please work out reasonable sharing.
  10. Report any issues, concerns, or questions to the Tennis Chair or any HME board member. Be respectful of the volunteer time of these people. Any HME adult should be willing to help enforce the rules and protect our courts.
  11. If you or your child/guests damage the courts, you will be asked to pay for the repairs.
  12. There are both trash and recycling bins at the courts. Please use the appropriate bin. There is no trash pickup at the courts, so residents are asked to periodically take the cans to their homes for pickup or drag them up the driveway. This is not the job of the Tennis Chair — please help.
  13. These rules and policies are designed to encourage safe, healthy practices to protect our community (including kids of all ages) and our investment in this community asset. Thank you for following them.

Pickleball

In response to neighbor interest there is a new, portable pickleball now set-up now at our courts. This is a hot, new sport that is easy to play and be enjoyed by all ages!. There are temporary marker lines down and taped ones will be coming soon to add in the "kitchen" plus make the lines more visible overall. One set of paddles and 4 balls will be left on the court (in plastic bag) also for HME resident use, but please treat these kindly so everyone can enjoy.

The net is on rollers and can easily be moved off and on the far tennis court or to re-position. Note that there are locking tabs on each wheel that must be released to allow them to freely turn. Once in place, just lock the wheels down again plus adjust the Velcro net tape on each pole end as needed. This is a very nice net and let's take good care of it.

This is part of the board plans to set up one of our courts for "multi-sports", so watch for added news on that too. A nice basketball goal will be coming next plus a hitting backboard too. Get out there in this nice weather, but remember also to practice social distancing plus safe health guidelines for your benefit and all other!
